My maiden voyage with my new to me RV, a class C Winnebago Minnie Winnie, continues as we trek into Colorado in search of free camping, aka boondocking or dry camping.

RV Camping in Beautiful Colorado

Last time you saw me I was hanging out the Kaibab Forest of Arizona. I had been there previously so I felt comfortable heading back to try out RV boondocking for the first time. I was there for 7 days!!

Since it was July in the monsoon season in Arizona I was having a hard time finding dry places to camp or anywhere cooler than 100 degrees. I made the decision to leave the Grand Canyon state behind and headed north to the beautiful state of Colorado.

Stopping in Cortez, Colorado for groceries, to dump my tanks and fill my fresh water RV tank, I also searched for boondocking using app called Campendium. Boom! FR 316 looked promising!

Now ready for another possible week of dry camping I headed out of town turned off of Highway 162 to Forest Road 316. The location was beautiful and every spot was taken our way too muddy, I worried my RV would get stuck.  Somehow I made it out after taking (what seemed to be) a 15-point turn around on a forest road with a pretty gnarly incline.   And headed down.

With the sun lowering in the sky I decided to go ahead and search for locations with a fee since they have marked camping spots and thus easier to park as night approached.

Searching with Campendium again I found a great spot – a camp ground! Generally I avoid places I have to pay,  but I was losing light and $20 a night sounded great!

The park I stopped at is called Target Tree in Colorado and this is my vlog about my stay and hike while in this wooded, magical location.
